Sindh Hosts 35th National Games After 18 Years, Grand Opening at National Stadium Karachi

After 18 years, Sindh proudly hosted the 35th National Games with a spectacular opening ceremony held on Saturday at the National Stadium in Karachi. Chief Guest Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari graced the occasion, joined by Governor Sindh Kamran Tessori, provincial ministers, senior officials, renowned athletes, and representatives of the Pakistan Olympic Association and Sindh Olympic Association.

Addressing the audience, Bilawal Bhutto highlighted that hosting the National Games after nearly two decades is a significant honor for Sindh. He noted that young athletes from across the country have gathered to showcase their talent, reflecting the spirit of national unity. Bilawal emphasized the importance of youth in shaping Pakistan’s future and welcomed all participants, hoping they enjoy Sindh’s warm hospitality and perform to the best of their abilities.

Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah also addressed the event, welcoming athletes from all provinces. He stressed that Sindh’s rich culture is known for its hospitality and that the National Games represent provincial unity and sportsmanship. He encouraged athletes to maintain discipline and dignity while competing and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to empowering youth.

Provincial Minister for Sports and Sindh Olympic Association President Sardar Muhammad Bux Khan Mahar, in his capacity as Organizing Committee Chairman, assured attendees of excellent arrangements for the Games. Pakistan Olympic Association President Arif Saeed spoke about the objectives of the Olympic movement.

Following the speeches, the Chief Guest reviewed the march-past of participating teams. Athletes Muhammad Zubair Munir and Mahnoor Fatima took the oath on behalf of all competitors. Paris Olympics Gold Medalist Arshad Nadeem, along with former hockey captain Islahuddin and other athletes, officially lit the Olympic torch amid loud applause.

The opening ceremony featured demonstration sports, laser light shows, a musical performance by Hadiqa Kiani and Ali Zafar, and an impressive fireworks display. Thousands of students attended from public and private institutions, with special arrangements for differently-abled spectators.

The 35th National Games feature 32 competitions across 26 venues in Karachi, with nearly 11,000 athletes, officials, and guests from 14 teams participating. The Games will continue until December 13, concluding with a closing ceremony attended by Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif as the Chief Guest.
