Australia's famous T20 league Big Bash League is preparing to take a historic step. Preparations are in full swing to hold the opening match of this season in the Indian city of Chennai. MA Chidambaram Stadium is the strongest candidate to host the match and there have been positive signals from the BCCI and the Tamil Nadu Cricket Association.
A five-member delegation from Cricket Australia recently visited the stadium during the IPL match between Chennai Super Kings and Sunrisers Hyderabad. Several BBL teams including Sydney Thunder, Melbourne Stars and Melbourne Renegades have expressed interest in playing in Chennai. However, some issues are yet to be resolved at the government level.
If this plan takes shape, it will be the first time that an official BBL match will be played outside Australian soil, which will be a major step in the international expansion of the league.
Another interesting news was that former Indian spinner Ashwin was to become the first Indian player to represent Sydney Thunder this season but had to withdraw due to a knee injury.
