Warwickshire County Cricket Club has announced that former England captain Mike Smith, also known as MJK Smith, passed away on Monday at the age of 92. The club expressed its deep sorrow, describing him as a legend of the Warwickshire Bears.
Mike Smith began his Test career for England in 1958 and played a total of 50 Test matches, of which he also captained 25. His record in First Class cricket was excellent, scoring 39,832 runs in 637 matches, which places him 18th in the list of the highest run-scorers in history.
Apart from cricket, Mike Smith also represented the England Rugby Union team in 1964, which proves him to be an exceptional player. Even after leaving the game, he remained associated with cricket and served as an ICC Match Referee from 1991 to 1996.
