Pakistani spinner Usman Tariq's brilliant bowling is not being digested by Indian circles. He has been facing constant criticism since the series against Australia, while his recent performance has intensified this debate once again.
Usman Tariq took three important wickets in the T20 World Cup match against the United States and played a key role in Pakistan's victory. After this match, an unknown Indian domestic cricketer shared a video of Usman Tariq's bowling on X and raised the question whether stopping at the last moment during the bowling action is in accordance with the rules of the game or not.
This Indian cricketer said that in football, sudden stopping while running during a penalty is not allowed, similarly in cricket it should be wrong to pause just before throwing the ball. According to him, if the movement is continuous, then it is fine, but stopping at the last moment is against the rules.
This debate did not end here and Indian legend spinner Ravichandran Ashwin came out in defense of Usman Tariq. Ashwin clearly said that when the batter has the freedom to play switch hits or reverse shots without informing the umpire or the bowler, then why are restrictions imposed only on the bowler.
He said that if the batter stands at the crease and indicates his intention to bat from a particular side, shouldn't he have complete freedom? Ashwin further pointed out that on the other hand, the bowler must inform the umpire before changing his bowling hand.
According to Ravichandran Ashwin, the laws in this matter need to be reviewed so that the same rules apply to both the batter and the bowler.
