Bollywood actor Rajpal Yadav surrendered in Tihar Jail after the court rejected his bail plea in the cheque bounce case. The film and political circles have stepped up their efforts to provide financial assistance to him.
Political leader Tej Pratap Yadav announced a financial assistance of Rs 11 lakh for Rajpal Yadav's family and said that he and his party Janata Shakti Janata Dal (JJD) are fully supporting Rajpal Yadav in this difficult time. He said that this step has been taken on the basis of humanitarian sympathy.
The film fraternity has also come forward to help. Actor Gurmeet Chaudhary said on social media that Rajpal Yadav's current situation is sad and the film circles should unite and help him. He said that Rajpal Yadav has given countless happiness to the fans and now he needs professional and moral support.
Actor and critic Kamal R Khan (KRK) also announced a financial assistance of Rs 10 lakh and appealed to Bollywood to collect a total of Rs 5 crore so that Rajpal Yadav can pay his dues and be released soon. KRK said that if the required amount is provided soon, the legal complications can be reduced.
It should be noted that this legal matter has been going on since 2010, when Rajpal Yadav took a loan of Rs 5 crore for his film ‘Ata Pata Lapata’. The case was initiated due to the film’s failure and several cheque bounces, and the amount due has now reached about Rs 9 crore.
In April 2018, the court found Rajpal Yadav and his wife guilty under the Negotiable Instruments Act (Section 138) and sentenced them to six months in prison. Several appeals were filed, but the court, in its final verdict on February 4, 2026, refused to grant any further time and ordered Rajpal Yadav to appear in jail immediately.
