ICC Fines Fakhar Zaman for Code of Conduct Breach During Tri-Series Final

Pakistan opener Fakhar Zaman has been handed a fine and a demerit point by the International Cricket Council after a heated exchange with umpires during the tri-series final against Sri Lanka.

The incident surfaced in the 19th over of Pakistan’s chase, where Fakhar was seen continuing his argument over a not-out call. Match officials marked his reaction as a violation under Article 2.8, the section that deals with visible disagreement or frustration over an umpire’s decision.

The charge was submitted by the on-field and TV officials — Ahsan Raza, Asif Yaqoob, Rashid Riaz and Faisal Afridi — while match referee Rheon King confirmed the penalty. The outcome includes a 10% deduction from his match fee and one demerit point, making it his first recorded offence in the past two years.

Fakhar Zaman accepted the penalty without contest, which meant no formal hearing was required — a standard procedure for Level 1 breaches. Under ICC regulations, Level 1 violations may result in a warning, financial penalties reaching 50% of the match fee, and up to two demerit points depending on severity.
