FIFA World Cup 2026 becomes the biggest tournament in history

The FIFA World Cup 2026 has officially become the biggest tournament in football history. This time, 48 teams will participate and a total of 1248 players will take to the field.

This mega event, which will start on June 12, will be co-hosted by the United States, Mexico and Canada. This will be the first time in the history of the World Cup that three countries will jointly host it.

The format of the tournament has also been changed. The 48 teams have been divided into 12 groups, each group containing 4 teams. A total of 104 matches will be played.

According to reports, 357 of the 1248 players are those who have played the World Cup before, while 891 players will be playing on this big stage for the first time.

Big names will once again be seen in action, including Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo and Guillermo Ochoa, who are going to play the World Cup for the sixth time.

Interestingly, Cape Verde, Curao, Jordan and Uzbekistan are making their first appearance at the World Cup.

The youngest player in the squad is 17 years old while the oldest player will be 43. Seven players are over 40 years old while 22 under-20 players will also be taking part in the tournament.

This World Cup is not only the largest in terms of numbers but is also considered to be the beginning of a new era in the history of football.
