Under the monthly fuel adjustment, there is a possibility of price hike for electricity consumers once again.
During the hearing of the monthly fuel adjustment for April 2026 at the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra), the Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) has requested an increase of one rupee 73 paise in the price of electricity per unit.
During the hearing, CPPA officials said that the effects of the regional war also came to the fore in the month of April, due to which the energy sector had to face various challenges. Imported LNG was not available at all during this period.
However, LNG contracts and spot cargoes were received in May, after which LNG-powered power plants were activated.
The officials also said that a decrease in electricity consumption was recorded in all categories except the industrial sector. Daily planning of LNG for the next two months has been completed to improve power generation and fuel availability.
The CPPA says consumers will not face major shocks in the monthly fuel adjustments for May, June, and July.
