The growth rate of the agricultural sector in the current fiscal year was 2.9 percent

Pakistan’s agriculture sector has achieved a growth rate of 2.9 percent during the current fiscal year 2025-26. Despite a 3.6 percent decrease in cultivable area, overall production improved and production of major crops increased by 0.6 percent.

According to the National Economic Survey, wheat cultivation area increased by 4.4 percent and production by 4.3 percent to 29.6 million tons.

Rice production increased by 2.8 percent, while sugarcane production increased by 6.2 percent, taking the total production to 89.4 million tons.

Maize production decreased by 2.7 percent, however, the cultivated area remained the same as last year. Cotton production decreased by 0.5 percent and the cultivated area decreased by 1.5 percent.

Significant increases were seen in production in other crops. Potato production increased by 27.6 percent, mango by 11.6 percent and banana production by 30.8 percent. Turmeric production increased by 25.1 percent and chillies by 9.2 percent.

The growth rate of cotton ginning and miscellaneous agricultural sectors was only 0.1 percent, while the livestock sector achieved a growth of 3.8 percent.
