The ongoing debate over Babar Azam's exclusion from the squad has finally become clear. Initially, it was said that he was dropped due to poor performance for the Bangladesh tour, but later different statements have confused the situation.
Head coach Mike Hesson clarified that Babar was not dropped but was rested to give a chance to the younger players. On the other hand, selection committee member Aaqib Javed said that Babar and Fakhar Zaman were not included in the team due to fitness issues.
According to sources, the real issue was fitness. It has been reported that Babar Azam and Fakhar Zaman participated in the ICC Men's T20 World Cup despite not being fully fit, which also affected their performance.
Reports also revealed that the selectors were not aware of the actual fitness status of the players and relied on the clearance of physio Cliff Deacon.
Later, when Babar complained of leg pain before the National T20 Cup, Javed Mughal examined him, in which the injury turned out to be more serious. Similarly, Fakhar Zaman also did not look fully fit.
Sources say that Mohammad Rizwan was also not fully fit during the recent tour, while young player Moaz Sadaqat suffered an injury during the match.
The Pakistan Cricket Board is now investigating the matter and is considering making a comprehensive fitness policy in the future, so that players are included in the team only after a complete fitness check before any series.
