Pakistan’s information technology sector has crossed another milestone. During the first 11 months of the fiscal year (July-May 2025-26), IT exports have crossed $4.18 billion, including $1 billion worth of freelancer remittances.
According to State Bank of Pakistan data, IT exports were $3.47 billion in the same period of the previous fiscal year. Thus, a significant increase of $709 million has been recorded this year.
Ibrahim Amin, Chairman of Pakistan Freelancers Association (PEFL), attributed the increase to the younger generation of Pakistan, saying that more than 99% of the skilled workforce in information technology consists of youth.
He said that the number of freelancers and digital workers in Pakistan is continuously increasing as awareness about freelancing opportunities and digital skills training is increasing among students and young professionals.
IT exporter Dr. Noman Saeed said that Pakistan has the potential to further increase IT exports, but certain structural weaknesses are hindering the sector from utilizing its full potential. He stressed on a comprehensive strategy, modern digital education, access to new markets and further strengthening the presence in existing markets.
