Trade activities at Pakistani ports increased sharply due to the war in the Gulf

The ongoing fighting in the Gulf and disruptions to shipping lanes have led to a significant increase in trade activity at Pakistani ports.

According to Hutchison Ports Pakistan, new cargo is arriving in Pakistan via several ships. Two ships have already arrived at the port, while the third is expected in the first week of June.

The Hutchison Port Terminal in Karachi will handle 4,000 new transshipment cargoes, taking the number to 14,300 by March 2026.

According to foreign media reports, international shipping companies are using Pakistani ports as an alternative route due to the crisis in the Gulf region.

According to maritime authorities, activities have increased from 20% not only in Karachi but also at Gwadar Port to 30%.

To make Gwadar Port more attractive, berthing fees have been reduced by 25%, international transshipment cargo charges by 40% and transit cargo charges by 31%.

Experts say that the increasing activities of Karachi, Port Qasim, and Gwadar ports are a positive sign for Pakistan to become an important regional logistics and transshipment hub.
