The Sindh government has rejected objections regarding the performance of students from Karachi in the MDCAT results and has sent a detailed response to the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC). In its communication, the Sindh Health Department has maintained that the available data does not support claims of poor performance by candidates from Karachi.
According to the Health Department, the performance of the Karachi Division in the examination results was better compared to other divisions in the province. In its response, the government has also presented data concerning the candidates' scores and the performance across various regions.
Data on the Performance of Candidates from Karachi
The communication states that 33,336 candidates from across Sindh participated in the MDCAT. According to the provided data, 32,390 candidates secured 90 or more marks; meanwhile, 66.98% of the 9,505 candidates from the Karachi Division achieved 90 or more marks.
According to the Health Department, 57.78% of candidates in the Karachi Division secured 99 or more marks, with an average score of 107.67. The government has presented these figures as evidence of the superior performance of students from Karachi.
Performance of Other Divisions Also Revealed
The communication also includes details regarding the results from other divisions in Sindh. According to the provided data, the proportion of candidates who secured 90 or more marks is as follows:
| Division | Candidates Scoring 90 or Above |
|---|---|
| Karachi | 66.98% |
| Sukkur | 55.04% |
| Larkana | 54.50% |
| Shaheed Benazirabad | 53.62% |
| Hyderabad | 52.34% |
The Health Department says that all the districts of Karachi were among the best performing districts of the province. He explained that the analysis was prepared on the basis of data provided by Sukkur IBA Testing Services, which has been conducting MD CAT from 2024 to 2026.
Opposition to questioning results based on domicile
In its reply, the Sindh government has said that seats in government medical colleges are allotted on a district basis and candidates with Karachi domicile are eligible for Karachi seats. Therefore, according to the government, the distribution of seats allotted to Karachi is not affected by the candidates from other districts getting more marks.
The post also raised the point that a candidate's domicile does not necessarily indicate the place where he has prepared for the examination. According to the government, students from other districts also come to cities like Karachi, Hyderabad, Sukkur and Larkana to prepare for the entrance exam.
Demand not to make the results controversial
The Sindh government has taken the position that the results of the candidates who secured higher marks on the basis of domicile alone cannot be called doubtful. The health department has demanded that the achievements of the candidates across the province should be recognized and MD CAT results should be avoided for political purposes.
However, this position is based on the reply sent by the Sindh government to the PMDC; The final decision on the objections related to the results will be clear only after the review of the concerned authorities.
