Former Pakistani fast bowler Mohammad Amir has clarified his controversial remark in which he labeled Indian opener Abhishek Sharma a "slogger." He stated that his comments were misinterpreted; his intention was merely to highlight the Indian batter's aggressive style of play.
The discussion surrounding Amir’s remarks emerged during the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026. In a recent conversation, an Indian journalist asked him why he had used the term "slogger" to describe Abhishek Sharma’s batting on a major television platform.
Difference in Terminology: Urdu vs. English
Explaining the situation, Mohammad Amir noted that his words were not understood in the proper context. He pointed out that the term "slogging" carries a specific meaning in English, whereas in Urdu, it can be interpreted as swinging the bat at every single delivery or attempting a shot on every ball.
He explained that instead of adopting a cautious approach, Abhishek Sharma attempts to play a shot at almost every delivery. According to Amir, his goal was simply to describe this particular style of batting.
Aggressive Batting Carries Higher Risk, Says Amir
The former Pakistani fast bowler added that his comments were not intended as a criticism of Abhishek Sharma’s abilities. Rather, he meant to point out that players who attempt to hit a big shot on every delivery inherently face a higher level of risk in their game.
