National wicketkeeper-batter Azam Khan has stated that the entire blame for Pakistan's failure in the 2024 T20 World Cup was placed on him, even though he played only one match in the tournament and faced just a single delivery.
Azam Khan—son of former captain Moin Khan—expressed deep frustration at being held responsible for the defeat.
Response to criticism regarding fitness
Addressing the criticism surrounding the team's fitness, Azam Khan questioned: if player fitness was the issue, why did those players considered 'fit' also fail to perform?
He pointed out that even the 'fit' players were unable to deliver, failing to chase down a target of 120 runs; yet, the discourse remained focused solely on fitness and skills.
Pakistan's failure in the World Cup
It is worth noting that Pakistan suffered a shock defeat at the hands of the United States in the 2024 T20 World Cup. Subsequently, the team also lost a match they were well-positioned to win against arch-rivals India, which ultimately led to significant difficulties for the side throughout the tournament.
