Reports circulating on social media regarding former Indian tennis star Sania Mirza—claiming that she donated land belonging to her tennis academy for the construction of a mosque—have been refuted.
For the past few days, this claim has been shared across various social media platforms, accompanied by an image. The viral photo depicted Sania Mirza alongside former Indian cricket team captain and state minister Mohammad Azharuddin, purportedly laying the foundation stone for a mosque.
What clarification did Sania Mirza’s father provide?
Sania Mirza’s father, Imran Mirza, issued a detailed statement on Instagram, dismissing the reports as fabricated. According to him, the image circulating on social media is not genuine; rather, it is a fake image created using artificial intelligence (AI).
Imran Mirza clarified that no mosque is being built at the site of Sania Mirza’s tennis academy, nor has any land belonging to the academy been donated for such a purpose.
Clarification regarding the publicizing of social work
In his statement, Imran Mirza noted that Sania has full authority to utilize land purchased by her or her family as she sees fit. However, in the current context, the reports regarding the construction of a mosque on the academy’s premises are incorrect.
He further added that any social or charitable activities Sania has undertaken in the past—or may undertake in the future—are her personal affairs. No one else has the right to publicize these activities, especially when Sania herself has not confirmed them.
Thus, according to the clarification provided by her father, the claims regarding Sania Mirza donating land for a mosque, as well as the viral image, are entirely baseless.
