Meta Considering Adding Facial Recognition Feature to Smart Glasses

According to the latest reports, Meta is considering the possibility of adding facial recognition technology to its smart glasses, despite concerns related to security and privacy.

According to the New York Times report, the proposed feature, which is being called ‘Name Tag’ internally, will be able to show the user wearing the glasses the identity information of the people in front of them, meaning that the user may be exposed to basic information about the person they are looking at.

The report states that an internal memo from the company itself has acknowledged that such technology could pose serious risks to the privacy and overall security of users, especially issues such as unauthorized identification.

According to the newspaper, Meta is considering the introduction of this feature as potentially beneficial in the context of the ongoing political and social situation in the United States. The internal memo indicates that the product is planned to be launched at a time when the attention of potential opposing civil society groups is focused on other important issues.

According to experts, if this feature becomes a reality, it could further intensify the global debate over technology as well as privacy.
