The defending champions Lahore Qalandars have been embroiled in a fresh controversy in the 11th edition of the Pakistan Super League, where questions have been raised over alleged breach of security protocols.
According to reports, Punjab Police have alleged that team captain Shaheen Shah Afridi and foreign player Sikandar Raza ignored instructions and allowed four unauthorized persons to enter the hotel floor where the team was staying.
The police letter stated that these persons remained in a player’s room for about three hours, although attempts were made to obtain permission first by the liaison officer and later by the franchise management, which were rejected on security grounds.
It is alleged that despite this, the guests were taken inside, which the police have expressed concern over, terming it a clear breach of security protocols and have demanded action to prevent such incidents in the future.
On the other hand, the team management says that the matter is under consideration with the league authorities and an explanation will be provided soon.
In a press conference after the match, Sikandar Raza clarified that Shaheen Afridi did not do anything arbitrary on his part, but rather his family was brought in at his request. He also said that no such problem had arisen in the past and if new protocols had been created, he was unaware of it.
