The International Cricket Council’s anti-corruption unit has launched an investigation into alleged corruption in Cricket Canada, which has raised concerns in cricket circles.
According to reports, the investigation is focused on two main aspects, including the match played between Canada and New Zealand during the recent T20 World Cup.
The documentary “Corruption, Crime and Cricket” by the Canadian program The Fifth Estate revealed that an over of this match is being declared suspicious, where captain Dilpreet Bajwa’s bowling was unusual and extra runs were given.
Moreover, an audio recording is also under investigation, in which former coach Khurram Chauhan claimed that board officials kept influencing team selection.
Former coach Pubudu Dassanayake also made similar allegations, according to which he was pressured to include certain players and threatened with termination of employment if he refused.
Meanwhile, Cricket Canada is already facing challenges such as administrative problems, a financial crisis and delays in player payments.
Anti-corruption officials say they cannot comment on ongoing investigations, but will continue to work to ensure the transparency of the game.
