Argentine star footballer Lionel Messi is embroiled in a new legal dispute, where he has been sued for breach of contract.
According to international reports, a Miami-based event promoter company has claimed that Messi did not attend an exhibition match last year, which caused the company to suffer huge financial losses.
The lawsuit has been filed in Miami-Dade Circuit Court, in which the Argentine Football Association and sports executive Julian Marcos Caplan are also made parties.
According to the application, under the contract, the promoter had exclusive rights to promote Argentina’s friendly matches, while also stipulating that Messi would play at least 30 minutes in each match.
The company argues that Messi’s presence was crucial to the commercial success of these matches, but he did not attend the match against Venezuela.
According to the allegations, Messi took to the field the next day for his club Inter Miami CF and scored two goals, while he later participated in the match against Puerto Rico.
The parties have also been accused of misrepresentation and fraud in the case, and the matter is now under trial.
