Vietnamese hackers hacked and sold 30,000 Facebook accounts, new cyber campaign revealed

Security company Guardio has uncovered a new and well-organized cyber campaign operating out of Vietnam. In this campaign, hackers are using Google App Sheets as a phishing relay to steal people’s Facebook accounts through fake emails. So far, about 30,000 Facebook accounts have been targeted by this campaign.

Guardio has named the scheme ‘Account Dumpling’. The stolen accounts are then resold on an illegal online shop run by the same hackers, meaning that these people both steal and sell accounts.

According to security researcher Shaked Chen, this is not an ordinary phishing tool but a complete and dynamic operation that includes live control panels, advanced prevention methods and constant updates. The entire system is so organized that it can be called a regular criminal business. This incident is the latest example of how hackers associated with Vietnam keep adopting new methods to hack Facebook accounts and make a profit by selling them on the black market.
