Pakistan’s automobile industry is on the verge of a major transformation in the next few years. The influx of electric and hybrid vehicles is increasing rapidly in place of traditional petrol vehicles.
According to industry data, 23 new vehicles will be introduced in the Pakistani market between June and December 2026, of which 20 will be equipped with electric technology. 87 percent of these vehicles will be based on electric, hybrid or range extender technology.
According to experts, Chinese companies are working rapidly with local partners to promote electric vehicles in Pakistan.
According to auto industry expert Shafiq Ahmed Sheikh, this transformation has started under the Auto Industry Development and Export Policy 2021-26. This process will be further accelerated in the upcoming Auto Policy 2026-31.
The government is moving towards electrification of the transport sector to reduce dependence on imported oil and LNG. This is expected to save about $4.5 billion annually. The government has also provided various incentives for electric vehicles.
