PCB's new central contracts will see major changes, many players may be out

New central contracts for Pakistan cricketers will start from July 1 and this time a major change is expected. The current Financial Model was introduced for three years in 2023 during the tenure of former Chairman Zaka Ashraf, which ends on June 30. PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi will decide on the new Financial Model and initial discussions are underway regarding the names.

Last year, 30 cricketers got central contracts and for the first time, no player was included in the A Category. This time, sources say that many players will be demoted and promoted in the categories.

The players who are said to be less likely to be included include Mohammad Nawaz, Abdullah Shafique, Faheem Ashraf, Hussain Talat and Khushdil Shah. On the other hand, players who have performed well in domestic cricket, including Azan Awais and Abdullah Fazal, are likely to get a chance.

These changes are also important because the central contract not only provides financial security but also indicates preference in team selection.
