Pakistan received $3.5 billion in remittances in April, continuing to increase on an annual basis

According to the latest data from the State Bank, Pakistan received $3.5 billion in remittances from overseas Pakistanis in April 2026. This is an increase of 11.4 percent on a year-on-year basis, which is a sign that overseas Pakistanis are continuing to send money home. However, a decrease of 7.6 percent was also recorded on a month-on-month basis, which is usually due to seasonal fluctuations.

These remittances came mainly from Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, the United Kingdom and the United States, which have traditionally been the largest sources of Pakistani remittances. A large number of Pakistanis living in these countries send money every month to support their families and this money is the backbone of the country’s economy.

Talking about the entire financial year, a total of $33.9 billion was received in the 10 months from July 2025 to April 2026, while this amount was $31.2 billion in the same period last year. That is, an increase of $2.7 billion in just one year, which is a remarkable improvement.

Remittances are not just statistics for Pakistan, but they are the daily livelihood of millions of households. Their role in keeping the country’s foreign exchange reserves stable is also very important, especially at a time when there is pressure on exports and external debt payments are also ongoing. Economists say that if this pace of remittances continues, the overall target for the current fiscal year can be achieved easily.
