Adidas and WhatsApp have announced an exciting and innovative collaboration for the FIFA World Cup 2026.
Now, the common football emoji (⚽) used in WhatsApp chats will automatically change to the official match ball of the World Cup, the ‘Trionda’.
The feature aims to further enhance the World Cup experience for football fans through group chats, live reactions and match day messaging.
The name ‘Trionda’ is chosen keeping in mind that this World Cup is being played jointly in three countries (USA, Canada and Mexico). ‘Tri’ means three while ‘Onda’ means ‘wave’ in Spanish and Portuguese. The dynamic design of the ball also reflects the football passion and cultural flow between the three countries.
This change is a creative way to make the World Cup 2026 a part of users’ everyday digital conversations.
