Pakistani freelancers earned over $950 million in foreign exchange in ten months

Pakistani freelancers have achieved great success despite difficulties during the first ten months of the current fiscal year, earning more than $959 million in foreign exchange.

According to the State Bank of Pakistan, freelancing exports in the computer and information services sector reached $959 million from July 2025 to April 2026, while the revenue was $642 million in the same period last year. Thus, an increase of 49 percent was recorded on an annual basis.

Pakistani freelancers performed better than freelancers from many countries, including India, China and the United Arab Emirates, during this period.

Dr. Imran Batada, President of the Pakistan Freelancers Association, said that this increase was possible due to the increasing number of Pakistani freelancers on Upwork, Fiverr and social media platforms. He said that awareness about freelancing has increased a lot in the last few years and people have learned skills through online courses, training programs and NGOs.

Dr. Imran Batada further said that the size of the freelancing community in Pakistan is about 3 million people. He called on the government, banks and other relevant institutions to cooperate in further organizing and expanding this sector.
