Apple iPhone users are facing another security threat, with new research revealing a dangerous spyware that could target millions of devices.
According to researchers, the malware was spread in recent weeks, mainly through dozens of websites in Ukraine, from where it can infect iPhones and other Apple devices. The software has been dubbed “DarkWord,” while another spyware called “Corona” has also been discovered before.
The discovery was made in a joint study by Google researchers, mobile security firm iVerify, and Lookout. According to experts, this advanced malware is capable of stealing user data, even information about cryptocurrency wallets.
According to the report, these attacks are specifically targeting iPhones that are using older iOS versions (18.4 to 18.6.2). It is estimated that 220 to 270 million iPhones worldwide are still running versions that could put them at risk.
Apple says that several security updates have been released to fix this flaw, and most of the attacks are targeting users using outdated software.
According to experts, the most important step for users is to always keep their phones updated to the latest software, as this method is the most effective in protecting against such cyber attacks.
