A document has revealed that the government has collected Rs 1.2 trillion 5 billion 18 crore from consumers in the form of petroleum levy in just 9 months from July 2025 to March 2026. In addition, another Rs 35 billion was collected separately in the name of Climate Support Levy. The month-by-month receipts were as follows:
- July 2025: Rs 1.45 trillion
- August 2025: Rs 1.15 trillion
- September 2025: Rs 1.11 trillion
- October 2025: Rs 1.45 trillion
- November 2025: Rs 1.51 trillion
- December 2025: Rs 1.57 trillion
- January 2026: Rs 1.24 trillion
- February 2026: Rs 1.20 trillion
- March 2026: Rs 1.37 trillion
These figures are shocking because this money has come directly from the pockets of the common man. Whenever someone buys petrol or diesel, a large portion of the price goes to the government treasury in the form of levy. Currently, the levy on petrol has gone above Rs 117 per liter, which is a record high. These figures are certainly painful for the people who are already suffering from the brunt of inflation.
