Meta, the parent company of Facebook and Instagram, has confirmed that it is laying off 8,000 employees. In addition, the company intends to not hire about 6,000 vacant positions, meaning that the company’s total workforce could be reduced by about 14,000.
According to an internal company memo, the move is aimed at improving efficiency and freeing up resources for new investments. The layoffs are part of a larger strategy under which Meta wants to invest heavily in artificial intelligence and focus on AI by cutting unnecessary costs. This trend is growing rapidly in the technology industry, where large companies are eliminating traditional jobs and shifting to AI.
