About 40,000 employees at Samsung’s chip complex in Pyeongtaek, South Korea, have staged a massive rally and threatened to strike over a lack of bonus increases. Amid a heavy police presence, the workers gathered at the factory premises carrying banners and demanding transparency in the compensation system.
The workers argue that memory chip profits are increasing significantly due to the growing global demand for AI, so their wages should also be increased.
Notably, the protest came just hours after Samsung reported a big increase in its January-March quarterly revenue and operating profit, further fueling employee anger that the company is making profits but ordinary workers are not getting the benefits.
