Iran's football team has faced a major problem ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Due to visa issues, Iranian players will now train in the Mexican city of Tijuana instead of the American city of Tucson, Arizona, and FIFA has approved the change.
Taj Mehdi, president of the Iranian Football Federation, said that the decision was made because all players and officials were not sure that they would receive US visas in time. He said that Tijuana is close to Los Angeles, where Iran will play its first two group matches, so the travel time will not be long.
FIFA President Infantino has already made it clear that Iran's matches will be played in America as scheduled and there will be no change in this regard. Iran has been placed in Group G with New Zealand, Belgium and Egypt and the first match is against New Zealand on June 15.
This issue is the result of tense diplomatic relations between America and Iran, which complicated the Iranian team's World Cup preparations, but by finding an alternative solution to Tijuana, the team has practically found a way out of this problem.
