Growing trend of vibe coding, new cyber threat for IT sector

Cybersecurity experts have warned that the rapid growth of “vibe coding” could pose serious security challenges in the future, especially for Pakistan’s emerging IT and freelance sectors.

According to experts, vibe coding is a method in which a user simply writes instructions and uses Artificial Intelligence to create a complete application. While this facility is a source of growth, it is also creating new security risks.

According to cybersecurity researcher Aitzaz Mohsin, modern “agentic” AI systems have the ability to write, modify and run code themselves, making traditional security systems more complex.

Experts warned that if these platforms have flaws, they can lead to dangerous attacks such as zero-click attacks, where the system can be hacked without any action from the user.

Pakistani freelancers who work on platforms like Upwork and Fiverr are rapidly adopting AI tools. According to the report, Pakistani freelancers have earned more than $500 million in foreign exchange in the first half of the fiscal year 2025-26.

According to Sobhan Hanif, this method also includes risks such as “prompt injection” and automated malicious software execution, which can lead to unauthorized access.

Experts say that the problem is not limited to AI models, but vulnerabilities in their underlying systems can also prove dangerous. A single infected developer’s system can simultaneously put the data of several international clients at risk.

Moreover, the current policies of the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority do not contain clear guidelines regarding AI development platforms, which may further increase these risks.

Experts have urged the government and relevant institutions to immediately introduce laws and safeguards related to AI security, so as to protect IT exports and the digital economy from potential losses.
