FIFA invites Iran to Zurich, World Cup participation matters will be finalized

Amidst the uncertainty surrounding Iran’s participation in the 2026 World Cup, FIFA has invited the Iranian Football Federation to its headquarters in Zurich to finalize the team’s participation, security and other administrative matters. The Iranian federation is expected to attend the meeting in Zurich by May 20.

Iran’s participation in the World Cup has been the focus of global attention due to the war tensions with the United States and Israel in the Middle East, and questions are being raised about whether Iran will be able to go to the United States and play matches. However, FIFA President Gianni Infantino has already made it clear that Iran will definitely participate in the 2026 World Cup and will play its matches in the United States as scheduled. FIFA is fully committed to resolving the issue and does not want any team to be excluded from the tournament for political reasons.

It should be noted that the 2026 World Cup will be held jointly in the United States, Canada and Mexico and for the first time 48 teams will participate.
