Australia announces new-faced squad for series against Pakistan

Australia have announced their squad for the upcoming White Ball series against Pakistan and the biggest thing about this squad is that three big names Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazlewood are nowhere to be seen. These three experienced fast bowlers will be rested to prepare for the ICC World Test Championship campaign starting in August and have been deliberately kept out of this series. Mitchell Marsh will take charge of the team in Pat Cummins’ absence.
Cricket Australia Chief Selector George Bailey made it clear that this decision is part of the future planning. Testing young players in different conditions is essential to prepare for the upcoming big events and this series against Pakistan is a good opportunity for that purpose. Under 19 World Cup captain Oliver Peake and all-rounder Liam Scott have managed to make it to the Australian senior squad for the first time, while Riley Meredith and Billy Stanlake have also returned to the team.
The ODI series between Pakistan and Australia will begin on May 30 in Rawalpindi, while the remaining two matches will be played in Lahore on June 2 and 4.
The announced squad is as follows:
- Mitchell Marsh (captain)
- Alex Carey
- Nathan Ellis
- Cameron Green
- Josh Inglis
- Matthew Kuhnemann
- Marnus Labuschagne
- Riley Meredith
- Oliver Peake
- Matthew Renshaw
- Tanveer Sangha
- Liam Scott
- Matt Short
- Billy Stanlake
- Adam Zampa
