WhatsApp's Disappearing Messages feature will be improved, now the message will disappear after being read

WhatsApp is going to make a major change to its Disappearing Messages feature. Until now, a major problem with this feature was that the timer started as soon as the message was sent, meaning the recipient didn’t even see it and the message disappeared. Now, the solution to this problem is coming in the form of the After Reading option.

WhatsApp Beta Info has identified this feature in the latest iOS Beta Update. After successful testing on Android, it is now being released to some iOS Beta Testers and will be available to all general users in the coming weeks.

With the new option, the timer will start not after sending the message but after opening the message. Users will be able to choose 5 minutes, 1 hour or 12 hours for the message to disappear after opening. If the recipient doesn’t open the message, it will automatically disappear after 24 hours. This small change will make the feature much more usable.
