Popular messaging app WhatsApp is working on a new feature that will allow users to chat with people who don’t have a WhatsApp account.
According to a beta update that was released on March 16, the company is testing a feature called “Guest Chats.” Under this feature, users will be able to invite anyone to a chat through a secure web link. The person who receives the link will be able to open it in a browser and join the conversation without installing the app or creating an account.
This feature is currently being tested for limited beta users on Android and iOS. Users will be able to create an invite link directly from the app’s contact section, which can later be shared via SMS or any other messaging platform. In this way, it will be possible to temporarily chat with people who don’t use WhatsApp.
According to experts, this step may be part of Meta Platforms’ strategy under which the company wants to further increase the use of WhatsApp. Once people find it easier to use the platform, they are likely to create full accounts later.
If this feature is rolled out widely, it could particularly benefit businesses, customer support teams, and event organizers, as they often have to reach out to people who are not already using WhatsApp.
