The Second Phase of 5G Spectrum Auction in Islamabad has been Completed

The second phase of the 5G Spectrum Auction Pakistan has been completed in the federal capital Islamabad, after which the price of the 2600 MHz band has been recorded as increasing by 5%.

According to officials, three telecom companies participated in the auction process, while a total of six frequency bands have been offered. A total of 597.2 MHz spectrum is available in this auction. Bids were made for two of the six bands in the first phase.

According to the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority, 190 MHz spectrum was offered in the 2600 MHz band. 30 bids were received against 19 lots for this band, while 11 additional bids were also received, due to which its price increased.

In the second phase, the demand was high in the 2600 MHz band. According to officials, one operator bid to get two lots, while a total of seven additional bids were received. Similarly, bids have been received for two lots in the 700 MHz band.

Other bands included in the auction include the 3500 MHz band where 280 MHz spectrum was available and 28 lots were offered, out of which 20 lots were bid for.

According to officials, four of the six bands are being introduced for the first time to enable the launch of 5G services in the country. Telecom companies Jazz Pakistan, Zong and Ufone have already deposited $15 million each as deposits.

Chairman Pakistan Telecommunication Authority Major General (retd) Hafeez ur Rehman says that load shedding is a major obstacle in the provision of internet in the country, however, the launch of 5G service will make it possible to provide fast and modern internet.

Addressing the inaugural ceremony, Federal Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb said that this is an important day for the IT sector and the government is taking steps to stabilize the country's economy.

Federal Minister for IT Shaza Fatima Khawaja said that the importance of IT has increased greatly in the modern era and 5G service is being introduced in Pakistan for the first time, which is expected to further accelerate the pace of digital development in the country.
