South Korea has surprised the world with a unique combination of technology and religion. The world's first humanoid robot monk participated in a ceremony held before the Buddha's birthday at Seoul's Jogyesa Temple as a monk.
The robot has been named Gabi and is 130 centimeters tall. At the ceremony, Gabi, dressed in traditional Buddhist gray and brown robes, stood before monks and pledged to devote herself to Buddhism, a first of its kind in the world. The move has become an unusual example of the growing role of technology in religious circles.
