Snap Inc.'s big decision: announcing the layoff of a thousand employees

Snap Inc. has announced a major restructuring in light of the growing use of artificial intelligence, laying off about 1,000 employees and eliminating 300 vacant positions.

According to the company, the move is expected to save about $500 million by the second half of 2026. As of December 2025, the company had about 5,261 full-time employees.

Chief Executive Officer Evan Spiegel says that the decision is part of a change in the company’s strategy and progress towards the effective use of artificial intelligence.

According to him, AI tools have enabled small teams to work faster and better, which has increased the pace of important projects.

The company added that the use of AI will reduce repetitive tasks, speed up operations and provide better facilities to consumers and advertisers.

Snap Inc. has joined a growing number of major tech companies that have cut jobs in recent times, including Meta, Amazon, Oracle, GoPro and Block, Inc.

According to experts, the trend shows that technology companies are now rapidly moving towards achieving greater efficiency with fewer resources with the help of AI.
