Shan Masood may offer to step down as captain, having lost 12 out of 16 Tests

After the defeat in the second Test at the hands of Bangladesh, the question mark over Shan Masood's captaincy has deepened. According to sources, upon his return home, he will offer to resign from the captaincy in a meeting with PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi, but the final decision will be at the discretion of the board chief.

The figures are not good for Shan Masood. Since becoming captain in 2023, Pakistan has lost 12 out of 16 Test matches, which is a very disappointing record. Bangladesh has now whitewashed Pakistan for the second time, which has intensified this criticism.

During the press conference in Sylhet, Shan Masood was repeatedly asked about the captaincy, but he refrained from saying much. However, he did say that his intentions are clear and he wants to see the Pakistan Test team's graph go up in any role. He also apologized to the nation for not being able to deliver the results as expected.

The schedule ahead is also not easy. Pakistan has to tour England in July where three Test matches will be played and playing in English conditions brings its own difficulties. In such a situation, the captaincy question must be resolved soon.
