Cristiano Ronaldo, who has turned 40, is still not ready to stop. Portugal coach Roberto Martinez has announced a 27-man preliminary squad for the FIFA World Cup 2026, which includes Ronaldo's name. If he takes the field in the tournament, it will be his sixth World Cup, which will be a new historical record.
Ronaldo, 41, is already the most capped and most goalscored male player in international football and has been representing Saudi Arabian club Al-Nassr since 2023.
The squad announcement was also an emotional moment. Coach Roberto Martinez paid tribute to the late footballer Diogo Jota, who died in a car accident last year. Martinez said that Jota's spirit and passion will always be with the team.
