Relief for small solar consumers, Power Division requests NEPRA to waive license fees

On the directions of Federal Minister for Energy Sardar Awais Ahmad Khan Leghari, the Power Division has formally requested NEPRA to waive both the license requirement and application fee for solar systems of less than 25 kW capacity.

The Power Division maintains that under the old regulations of 2015, there was no need for a NEPRA license for solar systems of 25 kW or less and applications were processed by electricity distribution companies without any fee. But under the new prosumer regulations, NEPRA approval has been made mandatory for small domestic solar consumers and an application fee has also been imposed, creating unnecessary complications for ordinary domestic consumers.

The Power Division says that these bureaucratic hurdles are not only causing difficulties for ordinary consumers but can also harm the efforts to promote renewable energy in the country. Therefore, a request has been made to restore the old system so that small solar consumers can easily get an opportunity to install solar systems.
