Instant messaging application WhatsApp has started introducing a new feature for Android users, which will help them more easily manage and delete media files downloaded from channels, so as to free up space on the phone.
According to technology website WhatsApp Beta Info, this feature, called Channel Storage Cleanup, is currently being provided to Android users using the beta version in stages, so this facility will not be available to all beta users immediately.
Previously, users had to go to WhatsApp settings to delete media files from channels and select each file separately. The new feature will allow media to be filtered into different categories such as images, videos, stickers and voice notes, which will make deleting unnecessary files much easier and faster.
WhatsApp has also introduced two ways to access this feature. The first way is through the Channel Info screen, where users can view the saved media files of a single channel and delete selected content.
The second method will be available in the Updates tab, where users will be able to delete media files from multiple channels at once by selecting one or more channels and selecting the ‘Clear Media Files’ option.
This feature will be especially useful for users who follow multiple active WhatsApp channels and whose phone storage fills up quickly due to media files.
