Concerns about Iran's football team's participation in the World Cup have largely been dispelled. The FIFA president has assured Iranian authorities that all Iranian players and officials will be issued visas to enter the United States.
Iranian Sports Minister Ahmad Donyamali said that host countries have the responsibility to provide visas to all participating teams and he hopes that Iran will participate in the tournament in a calm atmosphere.
Despite the assurance of visas, Iran has decided to stay in the Mexican border city of Tijuana as a practical precaution to avoid any last-minute problems. Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum has also confirmed that the Iranian team will be allowed to stay.
The Iranian squad is currently in a training camp in Antalya, Turkey, and some players have also submitted applications for US visas in Ankara. Iran will play against New Zealand, Belgium and Egypt in Group G and the World Cup begins on June 11.
