Electricity will not be expensive in June, consumers saved from a burden of Rs 38 billion

The Power Division spokesperson has announced that there will be no increase in electricity prices in June. Despite the shutdown of LNG and the use of expensive Furnace Oil, there will be no additional burden on consumers. The monthly Fuel Adjustment has been stopped at an increase of Rs 1.73 per unit, which saved consumers from a potential burden of Rs 38 billion and also protected them from an additional expenditure of Rs 5 to 6 per unit.

The spokesperson said that this relief was possible due to additional supply of local gas, production from imported coal plants and increase in electricity demand. In the first quarter too, Rs 65 billion was returned to consumers and a relief of Rs 1.93 per unit was given.

There will also be no increase in the Reference Tariff next month, but a relief of about 20 paise is expected.

However, it should be remembered that this relief is only with regard to Fuel Adjustment. Base Tariff and other Surcharges are already at high levels and Tariff Adjustments are likely to continue in the coming months under the agreement with the IMF.
