Breast milk warnings made mandatory on formula milk cartons

The Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan (DRAP) has issued new directives to companies and importers of infant formula, making it mandatory to include a message regarding the importance of breast milk on the packaging of such products.

The objective of this government decision is to raise awareness about child health and the benefits of breast milk during early infancy.

Warning to be included on packaging and labels

Following a special directive from the Senate Health Committee, it has been mandated that a clear warning message must be displayed on all packaging, labels, and containers of formula milk intended for children aged one to three years.

DRAP has issued a formal notification to all relevant manufacturers and importers, instructing them to ensure that this message is included in the informational section of the packaging.

Directive to include the message in both Urdu and English

According to DRAP, the warning must be clearly displayed in both Urdu and English. It shall state the following:

Breast milk is best for the baby

The Authority has directed all companies and importers to ensure the immediate and strict implementation of this decision, with the aim of fostering greater awareness among parents regarding the optimal upbringing and health of their children.
