ACP Full Form


ACP full form, when looked at from the police perspective is the Assistant Commissioner of Police. It is a term usually used when talking about the Indian Police Service. It is a quite significant post in the police department. This post comes under the central and the state level. It is considered to be the highest ranks in the Indian Police Service.

It is not a post specifically in the Indian Police Services but is also a rank that is used all over the world, the terminology, however, might be different. This is in addition to the nature of the job. This rank is employed in various administrations of different countries which include all kinds of taxes. How can a person become an ACP in the police?

There are two ways in which a person can become an ACP or achieve this post after promotions. The first one is to be chosen after completing the designated examination and clearing the interview which comes after that. Apart from this, another way through which a person might be able to achieve the status of an ACP is after to get elevated or promoted after 15 to 20 years of service, working under the state police system.

How is a person found eligible in the police department?

To become an ACP, a candidate needs to have the following things:

  • The first and foremost thing a person needs to ensure is being an Indian citizen. No person would be eligible to become an ACP in the Indian Police Service if he or she is not an Indian citizen.
  • The candidate who wants to become an ACP should be mentally and physically sound. No one who is handicapped or mentally unfit should be elected as the ACP.
  • The candidate applying for the post of the ACP should be a graduate. No one with an education less than being a graduate would be eligible for applying for the post of the ACP.

What does a Police ACP do?

The Assistant Commissioner of Police is in charge of the everyday working of the stations. Criminal and other such offenses are included. An ACP is also responsible for making sure that a that the departmental strategies, their initiatives, as well as their actions are up to the mark and give favourable feedback on those things. In addition to this, the ACP reports to the superior authorities.

How to become an ACP?

To become an ACP, the candidate would have to successfully complete the CSAT examinations and choose IPS. The requirement to appear in the CSAT exam, the candidate needs to be a bachelor’s graduate from a recognized university or hold and equivalent degree. The age limit for the candidates is from 21 to 30 years. With this, the upper age limit is 5 years, as far as the SC/ST is concerned and for OBC, its 3 years.
