China's new 800-passenger plane prepares to challenge Boeing and Airbus with flying wing design

China has unveiled a concept for a future large passenger plane that could carry up to 800 people at a time. The proposed plane will also be different from conventional passenger planes because its design will not consist of separate fuselages and wings like conventional planes.

The China Aerodynamics Research and Development Center is working on the project. The proposed plane will use a flying wing design, meaning the main body of the plane and its large wings will be part of a single integrated structure.

According to the concept, the plane’s wingspan will be about 230 feet. This size makes it significantly larger than the B-2 Spirit stealth bomber, which is said to have a wingspan of about 1.6 times that of the proposed plane.

The project could also surpass current large planes in terms of passenger capacity. The Airbus A380 normally seats about 555 passengers, while China’s new concept aims to seat about 800.

The plan comes at a time when China is trying to further develop its commercial aviation industry. The China Aerodynamics Research and Development Center has been involved in major projects in this field before.

The institution has also played a central role in the development of China’s C919 passenger plane and Y20 military transport plane.

If the concept becomes a practical aircraft, its unique flying wing design could make it completely different from current large passenger planes.
