A new update to the system that powers ChatGPT has been accused by some users of deleting files from their computers without permission.
Last week, ChatGPT maker OpenAI introduced a new model called GPT-5.6 Civil. This model is specifically designed for complex tasks, such as coding and cybersecurity.
According to OpenAI, the model sets a new standard for intelligence and performance and achieves state-of-the-art results. The model comes at a time when the race between OpenAI and Nthropic to build the world's most powerful AI models has intensified.
However, some users say the new system is not working as expected and is allegedly automatically deleting files from people's computers.
According to AI investor Matt Schumer, GPT-5.6 Civil accidentally deleted almost all the files on his Mac.
He also shared a conversation with the AI system, in which the system allegedly admitted that it had caused a serious incident of local data loss.
Software developer Bruno Lemos also claimed that GPT-5.6 Civil deleted his entire production database. This is no joke.
These claims have raised concerns among users about the new AI model's security system and file access mechanism.
