A new study has found that Pakistan’s solar revolution has transformed the country’s energy system in two years.
Distributed solar, which used to be ignored in official figures, has now been re-evaluated.
According to a report by Ember and Renewables First, distributed solar has played a significant role in increasing electricity demand in Pakistan.
In two years, Pakistan’s total electricity generation has increased by 21%, reaching 33 terawatt hours. Distributed solar generation accounted for the largest share of this increase, at 36 terawatt hours.
Distributed solar increased Pakistan’s electrification rate to 21.7% in fiscal year 2025.
Distributed solar generation more than tripled The production of 15 terawatt hours in fiscal year 2023 increased to 51 terawatt hours in 2025.
This means that 28 percent of Pakistan’s electricity generation in fiscal year 2025 came from distributed solar, which is 10 percent more than in 2023.
Ember’s chief analyst said that there is a huge energy demand in Pakistan and solar is meeting it.
Nabia Imran (Renewables First) said that distributed solar is providing affordable and reliable electricity to millions of homes, farms and businesses.
The report states that distributed solar has helped in providing electricity to the agriculture, industry, residential and commercial sectors.
